The School of Oceanography is pleased to announce the availability of undergraduate scholarships for the academic year.

• The Johnson/Porath Undergraduate Scholarship for Excellence in Oceanography
• The Ellerbeck Scholarship awarded to an underclassman for Promise in Oceanography
• The Backus Award for Senior Undergraduates or First Year Graduate Students with Exceptional Promise in Ocean Research

The scholarships are monetarily equivalent to three quarters of undergraduate instate tuition, and may be used for tuition, books, lab fees, or other academic expenses.  Scholarships winners will be announced at the end of Spring Quarter.  Eligible undergraduates are limited to matriculating Oceanography majors in good academic standing who will be enrolled for at least two quarters during the academic year (summer, autumn, winter, or spring).  Students receiving financial aid should contact the UW Financial Aid Office regarding how winning a scholarship might affect their award.

How to Apply

Please submit one packet containing the following:

• page 2 of the application - Download
• a one-to-two page personal statement (see page 2)
• a copy of your unofficial UW undergraduate transcript (available on MyUW)
• copies of other college-level transcripts (if appropriate). 

Materials may be turned in either to the Oceanography Student Services Coordinator, faxed to the phone number listed below, or sent to:
