Alumni Services

Oceanography alumni are invited to contact the school regarding upcoming events, alumni gatherings, or other points of interest.  We would appreciate your thoughts on how we can build an active community of past graduates and on the kinds of alumni activities you would enjoy.  Our students are especially interested in learning about the many and varied careers our alumni have pursued and we very much want to hear your stories. For alum interested in donating to the school, currently we have four funds that we are trying to enrich.

• The Rita Colwell Scholarship Fund
  This scholarship fund provides support for undergraduate women pursuing degrees in Oceanography to augment costs associated with their studies and offset increases in tuition.
• Dean A. McManus Excellence in Teaching Award
  Each year, this award recognizes the outstanding achievement of a School of Oceanography graduate teaching assistant.
• Richard H. Fleming Endowed Professorship
  Professor Richard H. Fleming was a pioneer in bringing Oceanography to an undergraduate level and subsequently a graduate and school level here at the UW. This fund has been established to create a faculty position named after Dr. Fleming and dedicated to the role of teaching and development of teaching programs.
• Oceanography Discretionary Fund
  Provides the Director of the School of Oceanography with unrestricted resources to develop programs that are not covered by state funding. This fund covers a variety of needs including student support, curriculum development, community outreach programs, and faculty retention.
