Ocean 101 Course Objectives          

Offers a new way of looking at the world:

Appreciating the awesome power of the oceans in our lives, including the great benefits we receive, as well as devastating natural disasters spawned by the sea, such as hurricanes and tsunamis.

Understanding the interconnections between the physical and biological elements of ocean ecosystems, and their contribution to the function of the earth system.

Understanding that the world is a dynamic place, and evaluating the processes at work.

Promotes new ways of thinking & learning about the world:

Moving beyond simple knowledge of a body of facts, and exploring ways to deepen learning, understanding, problem solving and synthesis of ideas. Hands-on exercises, including field trip options.
