Interim Report #1
Note: Each scientist will be expected to turn in his/her own individually prepared report. However, the research should be done by the group.
Apply Plate Tectonic Theory to your region. The goal is to create an integrated discussion of Plate Tectonic Theory in relation to your region. Make sure the following topics are addressed (at a minimum):
What plate are you on?
Where, if anywhere, is the plate created and destroyed?
What direction is the plate currently moving and how do we know this?
What evidence for the theory of Plate Tectonics is seen in your region? How does it help to confirm the theory?
Describe any tectonic seafloor features near your region?
Format:
The format of your interim report should be a mini-poster. You should include 3-5 figures illustrating the points you want to make. Each figure should be supported by text (just a paragraph or two). You can cut and paste or use a word processor to compile all of your figures and text onto 3-5 (8 ½ x 11) pages.
You also need to include references. Make sure you cite all sources of information including web pages. A web page citation should include the URL, the organization (or author) responsible for the web page, the date accessed (or date last modified).
Presentation:
The group should select one group member to make a short 3-5 minute presentation of their poster to the rest of the class.
Grading:
Your interim report and your presentation will be graded on content (Did you address all of the topics asked? Did you do any more than the minimum that was asked?) and readability/presentation style (Is the poster and/or presentation interesting, informative, and easy to understand?).
