Interim Report #2
Note: Each scientist will be expected to turn in his/her own individually prepared report. However, the research should be done by the group.
Discuss the wind-driven and thermohaline circulation in your region. The goal is to create an integrated discussion of the ocean circulation in your region. Make sure the following topics are addressed (at a minimum):
What are the major wind-driven (horizontal) currents?
Describe the thermohaline driven flow (if any).
Describe the influence of El Niño (if any).
Describe weather patterns and their relation to the ocean.
Pick a global warming scenario (i.e. thermohaline driven flow turning off or sea-level rising by 1 meter) and speculate on the consequences for your region.
Format:
The format of your interim report should be a mini-poster. You should include:
Introduction paragraph
Body of report including 3-5 figures illustrating the points you want to make. Each figure should be supported by text (just a paragraph or two). You can cut and paste or use a word processor to compile all of your figures and text onto 3 - 5 (8 ½ x 11) pages.
Conclusion paragraph
References. Make sure you cite all sources of information including web pages. A web page citation should include the URL, the organization (or author) responsible for the web page, the date accessed (or date last modified).
Presentation:
The group should select one group member to make a short 3-5 minute presentation of their poster to the rest of the class.
Grading:
Your interim report and your presentation will be graded on content (Did you address all of the topics asked? Did you do any more than the minimum that was asked?) and readability/presentation style (Is the poster and/or presentation interesting, informative, and easy to understand?).
