Life At A Hydrothermal Vent

I am lucky enough to have visited ten or twelve hydrothermal systems in the last three and a half years. This has been in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans during my 100 or so Alvin dives. So far on MaGIC we have seen one area of active venting, supporting it's own little ecosystem.

Vents "live" in two different ways: geologically and biologically. Some are more spectacular than others, but all are alive and all are beautiful.

Scientific Highlights

ABE Deployment - ABE was deployed after a one hour transit back to the Flow Area. The deployment went exceptionally well, with ABE flying a detailed near-bottom survey pattern and collecting CTD and magnetics data.
