Alden Denny

I am a graduate student working for Dr. Deborah Kelley at the University of Washington. Prior to UW I received his BS in geology from Western Washington University, and participated in research fellowships at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the US Geological Survey. My current research projects include the creation of highly detailed geologic maps of the Lost City Hydrothermal Field based on 2000, 2003, and 2005 cruise data and high-resolution geologic mapping of the Endeavour hydrothermal system. In my research I make extensive use of ArcGIS, Fledermaus, CARIS, and COVE visualization and processing systems in addition to video analysis and dive renavigation in Matlab. I participate yearly in research cruises with the Regional Scale Nodes team; at sea I typically run all multibeam bathymetry operations, coring operations, ship routing and scheduling, and on occasion submersible dive plans.
