The Endeavour Segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge hosts one of the most vigorously venting hydrothermal systems along the worlds mid-ocean ridge spreading centers . Located ~200 miles off the Washngton-Oregon coast, the Endeavour is accessible by a one day steam by ship, making it an optimal site for seafloor research (see REVEL). Among the key scientific objectives for research in this area is an in-depth examination of the physical, chemical, and biological linkages and feedback loops operative within this spreading environment. This area has been the focus of intense research since the early 1980's and because of it's remarkable vent fields and biological communities it has become a RIDGE Observatory.
