President AGU Ocean Sciences Section 2013-2014 PhD 1973 Chemical Oceanography, MIT-WHOI Joint Program Research Interests: Chemical
Oceanography and aquatic chemistry, specifically mechanisms controlling
the distribution of trace metals, nutrients, gases and radioactive
isotopes in oceans, lakes and sediments; export production in the ocean
determined using drifting sediment traps and thorium isotopes; suboxic
and anoxic environments. Ocean Acidification. Current projects include nitrogen cycling in the Black Sea, the origin of iron in the equatorial undercurrent in the Pacific and experimental studies of impacts of ocean acidification on community structure.
