R/V Clifford A. Barnes

19 February to 6 March 1998
Barnes worked out of Astoria Oregon on the Columbia River for Dr. David Jay. Dr. Jay is one of many scientists involved in the LMER project in the Columbia River estuary and the CORIE project of Oregon Graduate Institute's Center for Coastal and Land-Margin Resarch. Barnes was fitted with a hull mounted ADCP for this work. This was Barnes' third cruise in the Columbia River and part of an ongoing study that will continue through 1998 and beyond

20 May to 2 June 1997
Dr. Ellery Ingalls from University of Texas and Dr. Timothy Lyon studied benthic fluxes in Effingham Inlet on Vancouver Island's west coast and and Saanich Inlet on the island's east coast. Barnes deployed two landers and took gravity and box cores.

13 April to
18 April 1997
Barnes was used by the School of Oceanography's
undergraduate students for their Ocean 201 research cruise. Dr.
Richard Sternberg and Dr. Bruce Frost instructors.
Kathy Newel Teaching Assistant. We occupied an anchor station near Gedney Island for 5 days on a 12 hour rotation for the students.The student's training
involved studying currents, salinity, temperature, chemistry, biological
sampling and bottom sampling. Tim Matsui of the University of Washington

7 April to 11 April 1996
Barnes was one of four vessels used by the School of Oceanography's undergraduate students for their Ocean 460 senior research projects in Elliot Bay and Duwamish River.

24 and 25 September 1996
Dr. Alan Devol's
lander was deployed and recovered in Liberty Bay by Dean Lambourn and
Hilairy Hartnett. The deployment was a test for an upcoming cruise to Mexico.
Barnes has been used extensively by Dr. Devol during the development and
testing of the lander.

6 August to 11 August 1996
Working in Puget Sound and Lake Washington, Barnes towed a hydrophone streamer
and sound source for Dr. Robert Karlin and
Dr. Mark Holmes.
Piston and gravity cores were collected in several areas. Dr.s Karlin and
Holmes are studying earth quake related faults in Western Washington.
This is the second year of an ongoing study that will continue through 1997.

20 May and 23 May 1996
Barnes was recently engaged by Evans Hamilton
Inc. on a monthly basis to deploy and service ADCP and Anderra
instrument moorings, conduct CTD studies and deploy drift cards in Elliot
Bay. Evans Hamilton was working on contract to King County Metro related to
extending the Denny CSO.

3 March 1996
Dr.
Jody Deming uses Barnes in an ongoing bioremediation
study of Eagle Harbor. Dr. Deming's
crew collects bottom samples with a spade box corer to monitor the sediments in Eagle Harbor. Eagle Harbor was the site a creosote manufacturing plant.

Barnes is used periodically by Dr. Jan Newton of Wasington State DOE to conduct ongoing water sampling.

Barnes worked in Willipa Bay for Dr. Barbara Hickey and Dr. David Jay deploying current meter moorings, using a hull mounted ADCP and a winch operated CTD.
