Summer field volunteers needed!

Spend a summer day on the water! Gain valuable field experience! Tour a buoy! Learn to tie a bowline knot! Dramatic wildlife encounters! No long term commitment necessary! Free candy!

The ORCA project is looking for volunteers to help with field work this summer. We have 6 moorings deployed through-out the Puget Sound and Hood Canal, each equipped with profiling sensor package, winch, computer, wind and solar power system, weather station, and communication system. (More information about the ORCA project can be found online at http://orca.ocean.washington.edu.) We are looking for volunteers to help with the maintenance and repair of mooring components and water sampling. Work is conducted from small boats. No previous experience is necessary, however volunteers should be comfortable being on the water for several hours. Field days are typically long, and rain gear is often a necessity. Buoys are rarely pristine, and volunteers can expect to get dirty. Dramatic wildlife encounters are not guaranteed!
