The Students, Faculty and Staff of the ERIS Cabled Observatory invite you to the 3rd annual "Throw Things (primarily underwater sensors) Off the Dock" event. Each year the Ocean Tech program hosts the Exploration and Remote Instrumentation by Students (ERIS) underwater sensor design and build studio course in which student build sensors that will become part of the continuous ERIS observatory a the School of Oceanography dock . Each Spring we "attempt" to deploy, operate, and recover these instruments in an event which highlights student innovation in Ocean Technology.
This year the event will be held on Saturday May 21st between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Arrive at 10:00 at the Ocean Tech Center and visit with students in their makerspace as they put the final touches on their sensors, and join in the controlled chaos as we move to the dock for the 12:00 deployment. If you arrive just before noon you'll be able to watch as we deploy the underwater junction box and the attached sensors and then rush back to the lab to watch the datastream live to the internet from each of their sensors.
