News & Views

We are headed into finals week and then spring break, a chance to relax and recharge. The days are getting longer and hope is arriving in the form of vaccines, sunshine, and cherry blossoms. If you haven't been to campus lately, now is the time for a virtual walk across campus to see the blossoming trees. It is very impressive indeed.

Congratulations to Assistant Professor Jodi Young on the birth of your newest family member! Congratulations to Zinka Bartolek and Evan Lahr for your recent successful MS defenses! Well earned.

In case you missed the first session, our senior undergraduates are presenting their thesis work this week on Thursday, 9-11am via Zoom. Come learn about their research and cheer them along.

Thanks to everyone who worked through the chaos and helped make this year's graduate student recruitment virtual visit a roaring success.

Thanks to Jade Suave and Isa Osuna for hosting the recent DEI open meeting. Thank you also to everyone who attended.

Pandemic, Vaccines, and Our School

As the number of vacciniated persons contnues to grow, so does our hope to return to some new version of normal life. For now, the UW is virtual all spring (with limited exceptions) and the rules remain in place, even after you have been vaccinated. So, if you are coming to UW and you are vaccinated, you still need to wear a mask (unless alone in your office or lab space) and you need to be cognizant that less than 15% of us have been fullly vaccinated.

Need Help?

As we adjust to a difficult new normal, how to help ourselves and others can be unclear. Here’s a resource provided by the UW that may be of help: Working during COVID-19/Caring for self and family/Self care.

Per Governor Inslee's press conference, a list of new COVID restrictions can be found here
