News from the Director

Congratulations Max Showalter on your successful PhD defense.

Thank you to the nearly 200 people who filled out the culture survey.  Identifiers in the data are currently being stripped out by an outside consultant and the faculty council will give the data a quick look next week in preparation for our upcoming Culture Survey Town Hall. The tentative date for this is Monday September 14th, 3-4pm.  Everone welcome to attend and look over the data together.

Our annual fall welcome celebration, Oceanography Convocation, will occur virtally this year on Thursday October 8th at 3:30pm.  The planning team has some ideas to make this event special and to make up for the lack of a pizza party. In addition to welcoming our newest community members and honoring recent students, staff and faculty who have achieved major milestones or won awards, we will have a raffle and some ocean trivia, and we wil be announcing the new fall Afloat challenge.

Afloat Challenge

Please stay connected, please win the limited edition enamel pin! Click here now to update your social distancing data. There have been multiple winners of the level 2 prize, chocolates from our own Bill Fredricks. There is still time to play and win.

Graduate student Erik Fredrickson has announced a new fun challenge, the Back to School Bike Bingo.  Check his recent email describing the fun. Erik decided to put this together to fill the void in his heart left by the absence of Bike Benefits' usual bingo event. Any non-fossil fuel means of transport is fine, so join the fun. You can download the bingo card here.

Volunteer-led Race Talk Meeting

Slides for the discussion are posted in the Race Talk Folder.
