Picture A Scientist
Wednesday, November 25, 2020
As part of the Banse Oceanography Seminar Series, with help from the DEI committee and the graduate student body, we will be sponsoring a screening of the new film, Picture a Scientist.
Through three women scientists at different stages in their careers, this documentary combines poignant, firsthand recollections with indisputable current data, and helps to show a path forward towards increased equity, diversity and inclusion.
PICTURE A SCIENTIST was an official selection of the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. The film’s virtual theatrical run reached 47 theaters across the USA in June 2020, and raised money for two organizations advancing women of color in STEM.
In order to be able to offer this screening, we need you to fill out the survey here. All that is needed is your name and preferred email address. This information will be shared with the film studio. It will not be shared anywhere else. If the film studio subscribes you to their mailing list, you will be able to unsubscribe.
Deadline for RSVP is Mon 23rd of Nov. Once you have RVSP'd you will receive a link to view the film unlimited times during a 72h window. Depending on the exact scheduling, we plan to initiate the screening on Wed 25 and encourage viewing during the normal Banse Seminar time (2:30 pm Nov 25 PST).
In addition we will have a discussion about the documentary during our Race Talk discussions on Nov 30th at 11:30 am PST. Everyone is welcome to join, even if you have not participated in Race Talk previously. To join us for this discussion, please register here: https://washington.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMvc-ysqjsqE9bT0QQUpJECe__YmYZjQY01. If you have already registered for the Fall quarter Race Talk meetings, you do not need to register again.
